A man was stabbed to death by his older brother in Sitio Cantisang, Barangay Paril, Cebu City, at around 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 9.
The victim, identified as Joeniffer Jopia, succumbed to stab wounds inflicted by his 50-year-old brother, Narciso Jopia.
According to their cousin, Alvin Alibyo, Joeniffer arrived at his brother’s home repeatedly asking for forgiveness. Narciso, however, told him to leave. Alibyo attempted to escort Joeniffer away, but he kept coming back.
Fearing a violent altercation, Alibyo hid a bolo knife in the house. However, Narciso used a concealed knife to stab his brother in the chest. Alibyo tried to intervene but was forced to flee and alert other family members when Narciso stabbed Joeniffer again.
Following the incident, Narciso voluntarily surrendered to the Talamban Police Station. He claimed that Joeniffer appeared aggressive and insisted on reconciling their past dispute. The suspect said he became suspicious when his brother, who was wearing a jacket, asked for a lighter but had no cigarettes. Believing Joeniffer might be armed, Narciso admitted to stabbing him first out of fear.
Narciso expressed remorse but said he could no longer undo what had happened. Police are investigating the case.
