Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno emphasized that a reform agenda is underway under his leadership.
This came after the U.S. Department of State identified the BOC as one of the most corrupt agencies in the Philippines.
In a statement, Nepomuceno said that the agency has been pushing for reforms even before the U.S. report was released.
He explained that his institutional reforms and integrity measures aim to promote transparency, accountability, and professionalism within the bureau.
He also expressed openness to holding dialogues with the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (AmCham) and the U.S. Embassy to further discuss the findings in the report, exchange anti-corruption initiatives, and explore future cooperation to strengthen good governance and improve trade facilitation.
Nepomuceno was appointed as BOC chief in July.
