Bluebird Café shuts down Olivia Rodrigo-Taylor Swift feud rumors, confirms poster removal was for legal reasons, not request

The Bluebird Café is officially putting an end to online speculation that Olivia Rodrigo had a Taylor Swift photo removed before performing at the famed Nashville venue.

In a statement posted via video, Erica Nichols, general manager and COO of the Bluebird Café, addressed a viral rumor that took off after a clip surfaced showing Rodrigo performing at the venue without a visible image of Swift in the background.

“Olivia’s people did not ask us to remove an image of Taylor Swift. Nobody did,” Nichols said, responding to claims that Rodrigo’s team had demanded the removal. She clarified that the image was taken down due to legal filming protocols involving copyrighted materials.

Copyright rules, not celebrity drama, led to Swift image removal

According to Nichols, when the café hosts performances that are being filmed, they are required to remove any copyrighted materials, including images they don’t own. “We don’t own those images, so we can’t give permission for them to be in a broadcast,” she explained.

Rodrigo’s performance was part of a brief 2023 acoustic set with Sheryl Crow, filmed at the café. The viral speculation started after fans noticed the absence of Swift’s poster, sparking theories that Rodrigo intentionally wanted Swift’s presence erased.

The rumor intensified after a café employee allegedly told someone that Rodrigo’s team “vowed to remove any visible signs of Taylor Swift.” Nichols said the comment was made “carelessly” and didn’t reflect the actual situation. She confirmed that the employee misunderstood the legal requirements surrounding media filming.

Rodrigo, Swift both respected at Bluebird, says management

Nichols stressed that both artists are highly respected at the Bluebird, especially Swift, who has a long-standing connection with the venue and performed there early in her career.

“Taylor is a super friend of the Bluebird, and we hold her in the highest esteem,” Nichols said. “We were honored to have Olivia here, and they both live extremely high in our regard.”

Despite ongoing social media chatter about a possible rift between Rodrigo and Swift, both artists have publicly praised each other. Rodrigo has previously called Swift a “genius” and said she’d love to watch her creative process in the studio.

Nichols ended her statement by urging fans not to read into the situation. “This was not anything between two artists. It was a legal filming matter, nothing more.”
