Big Roy’s Café: How this family-owned gem turned into a design-savvy foodie destination

In the heart of the city, Big Roy’s Café has quietly transformed under new ownership. What was once a humble spot for locals now brims with charm, flavor, and a bit of a culinary surprise.

The café is now owned and operated by couple Luigi Serafica-Pangilinan and Nicole Mella-Pangilinan, who are infusing the space with both modern touches and treasured family traditions.

The vibe is unmistakably cozy and curated. Upon entering, you’re welcomed by a pastel blue counter, patterned tile tables, and a display of fresh baguettes beneath soft neon signage.

The dining area is filled with mismatched yet stylish chairs that add to the homey aesthetic. Behind the counter, chilled drinks line the glass fridge while lavender stems and art prints create a calming ambiance.

A breakfast menu to remember

If there’s one thing Big Roy’s Café nails perfectly, it’s breakfast. The all-day breakfast platter is a head-turner—thick, fluffy pancakes with the café’s name etched on top, crispy bacon, sunny-side-up eggs, grilled sausage, fresh mangoes, baked beans, and sourdough toast.

Every bite tells a story, especially when paired with their rich, traditional hot cocoa, which traces its roots to Nicole’s grandmother’s old recipe.

Favorites like chicharong bulaklak have also become crowd pleasers. The dish is perfectly crispy and flavorful, loved by regulars and first-timers alike.

A tale of two kitchens

Interestingly, while Nicole and Luigi are now at the helm, they’ve kept two separate kitchens in the café. One is Nicole’s creative zone; the other belongs to Estrella Maria “Teling” Serafica-Pangilinan, Luigi’s mother, who is still known for her legendary shakoy and buchi. This unusual arrangement allows each of them to maintain their distinct culinary style while sharing a single roof.

Nicole runs the café’s operations and introduces new twists on café classics. Ma’am Teling continues to charm loyal customers with her traditional Filipino treats, which remain unbeatable in flavor and nostalgia.

Perfect for events, too

Beyond its regular dining service, Big Roy’s Café also offers catering services. The venue can comfortably host events from 40 to 100 guests, making it a prime choice for intimate celebrations, family reunions, and even corporate gatherings.

Guests love the serene ambiance, friendly service, and flexible menu options.

Whether you’re stopping by for a peaceful brunch or planning a celebration, Big Roy’s Café delivers both warmth and flavor. It’s not just a place to eat—it’s where family traditions meet modern-day cravings.
