Barangay councilor shot dead in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat

A barangay councilor was shot and killed Sunday afternoon, January 4, 2026, in Purok Masagana, Barangay Sadsalan, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat.

Authorities identified the victim as Mansor Sagawan Omar, 46, a barangay kagawad of Barangay Sigayan.

Initial reports showed that Omar had attended a local fiesta in Purok Olidan and was already on his way home when the shooting happened. As he passed through Purok Masagana, an unidentified gunman suddenly opened fire on him.

Omar sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body, which caused his immediate death.

Responding police officers and barangay tanods rushed to the scene, but the suspect had already fled before they arrived.

Investigators recovered four spent shell casings and one live round from a 5.56-caliber firearm at the crime scene.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and to identify the suspect responsible for the shooting.
