Baby injured after coconut falls during aftershock

A family in Baganga, Davao Oriental, is asking for help for a one-year-old boy who was hit by a falling coconut during an aftershock on October 15, 2025.

The child, identified as Baby Liam Villarin Banda, sustained head injuries when the coconut tree fell while he was playing outside their home.

According to his aunt, Cherlyn Villarin, the toddler ran after a ball that rolled out of their house when the ground suddenly shook.

As the quake rattled the area, a nearby coconut tree fell and struck the boy on the head, causing severe bruises around his eyes, ears, and forehead.

The family rushed the child to Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center (DOPMC), but the hospital’s CT scan machine was reportedly not functioning.

Doctors advised them to transfer the boy to Tagum City for further tests, but financial difficulties prevented them from doing so.
