4-year-old child killed in Calamba City shootout

A 4-year-old child and two others were killed during a police operation that turned violent in Barangay San Cristobal, Calamba City, Laguna, authorities said Tuesday.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Dennis de Guzman, officer-in-charge of the Calamba City Police, the incident happened as four operatives were serving a warrant of arrest. Three armed men allegedly opened fire while the police were reading the Miranda rights to the subject of the warrant.

The gunfire exchange left a child, a 57-year-old bystander, and one of the suspects dead. Two police officers were also injured in the shootout.

Police said they arrested the main target of the warrant and one of his companions, while another suspect escaped.

The arrested individuals are now under police custody and will face multiple charges, authorities confirmed.

Investigators have not yet released further details about the child and the bystander who were hit during the exchange of gunfire. The Calamba City Police are conducting a follow-up investigation into the circumstances of the operation and the identities of all involved.
