Motorists were shocked after a baby was seen crawling along the side of a national highway in Barangay Tabalong, Dauis, Bohol, on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026.
The incident drew immediate attention from drivers passing through the area. Dash cam footage showed several motorists stopping their vehicles to protect the child from oncoming traffic. Some vehicles reportedly failed to notice the baby at first, raising concerns about the child’s safety.
Police from the Dauis Municipal Police Station quickly launched an investigation after receiving reports of the child on the highway.
Authorities later learned that the baby’s parents had been involved in a dispute prior to the incident.
Investigators said the child had just celebrated a first birthday when the baby was found crawling in the road. Police said the baby was allegedly left there by the mother.
According to the investigation, the mother wanted her husband to delay going to work because it was their child’s birthday. However, the husband reportedly left anyway.
Police said the mother then left the child along the highway in an attempt to get her husband’s attention.
Authorities did not release the names of the parents, noting that the mother is also a minor.
The baby is now under the care of the child’s grandfather while police continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Dauis police said the case remains under investigation and possible charges could be filed against the parents.
