Baby buried alive in Davao City landslide

A five-month-old infant died after a landslide buried their family’s home in Sitio Quarry, Mundo Hill, Barangay Marilog, Davao City on Thursday morning, May 8.

According to a report from Marilog Police Station, the incident happened while the Layuran family was inside their house. The homeowner, Mario Layuran, 64, said the soil beside their residence suddenly gave way.

Layuran told investigators that his grandson, Jeboy, was asleep in a hammock when the landslide struck. He and other family members managed to escape, but the baby was trapped inside the collapsed structure.

Footage from the incident showed neighbors and residents working together to retrieve the infant. They quickly dug through the soil in an attempt to save the child.

The baby was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
