Aurora Police confirm asphyxia due to drowning as cause of death of athlete Baterbonia

Rene Clert Baterbonia died from asphyxia due to drowning, according to Aurora Police Provincial Director Col. Percival Pineda.

Pineda said the finding was based on the Certificate of Post-Mortem Examination obtained by authorities.

According to the police official, affidavits gathered during the investigation have not indicated any signs of foul play.

Based on statements from members of the coaching staff, the athletes were walking in the sea as part of their training activity.

During the exercise, they reportedly passed through a deeper section of the water, where the athletes eventually submerged.

Pineda said the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
