Army neutralizes NPA member, seizes firearms in Surigao del Sur clash

Government troops neutralized a member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) and seized several firearms following an armed encounter in the hinterland of Sitio Bulacan, Barangay Bolhoon, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur, at around noon on April 15, 2026.

The clash involved combined forces from the 75th Infantry “Marauder” Battalion and the 3rd Special Forces Battalion.

According to military reports, the encounter targeted members of the remaining Regional Operations Command of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC), reportedly led by Edilberto Reponte Daval, also known as “Ka Bong” or “Wako.”

During the firefight, alleged members of the group retreated and left behind one casualty identified as alias “Ka Keroy,” described as a member of the Regional Operations Command. Troops also recovered five high-powered firearms and several pieces of equipment believed to belong to the group.

The military said the operation was launched following information from a local resident who reported the continued presence of armed group members in the community. The report claimed the group had been demanding money and food supplies from residents.
