Inilatag ni Pangulong Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr. sa UN General Assembly ang nakikita niyang mga hamon sa umanoy survival ng global community.
Sa kanyang talumpati sa 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly sa New York ngayong umaga, unang hamon umano ay ang climate change.
Paliwanag ni Marcos na ang Pilipinas ay ang ‘ika-apat’ sa mga ‘most vulnerable country’ sa apekto ng climate change.
“The effects of climate change are uneven and reflect an historical injustice: Those who are least responsible suffer the most. The Philippines, for example, is a net carbon sink, we absorb more carbon dioxide than we emit. And yet, we are the 4th most vulnerable country to the effects of climate change.”
Isang hamon din ayon kay Marcos ay ang mabilis na development ng advance technologies na bagamat may nakukuha tayong pakinabang nagdudulot naman ito ng problema sa ating ‘political and social orders’.
Maliban dito sinabi din ng Pangulo na ang lumalawak na ‘geopolitical polarities’ o hindi pagkakauwaan ng mga bansa ang isa din sa kailangan maresolba dahil humahantong ito sa ‘Inequalities and inequities’ sa iba’t-ibang nasyon.
Dagdag pa ng Pangulo na mas lalong lumitaw ang injustice nang magkaroong ng COVID-19 pandemic kung saan mas naunang makakuha ng bakuna kontra sa virus ang mayayamang bansa.
“This injustice was evident during the pandemic, when the richer nations immediately received vaccines at the expense of the have-nots. We see, for example, dangers of this lurking in the persistent digital divide and in ballooning debt burdens.”
