American national shot dead while watching TV in Negros Oriental

A 73-year-old American national was shot dead after armed men entered his home in Barangay Ajong, Sibulan, Negros Oriental, on the evening of July 12, police said.

According to investigators, the victim was watching television with his 34-year-old Filipina companion when three unidentified armed men forced their way into the house.

Police said one of the suspects shot the American in the head, killing him at the scene.

The Filipina companion sustained injuries during the incident and is recovering.

Authorities have not identified the suspects or disclosed a possible motive for the attack.

Following the shooting, the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region created the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Carpenter to lead the investigation and speed up efforts to identify and arrest those responsible.

The task group has been directed to coordinate investigative and intelligence operations as police continue gathering evidence related to the case.

Investigators are also pursuing leads that may help establish the identities of the three armed men who entered the residence.

The killing remains under investigation, and police have not released additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding the attack.
