Tragic crash claims young graduate and drag racer’s lives in fatal collision

A deadly motorcycle collision left two young lives lost, including a recent college graduate, in an incident involving an alleged illegal drag race on the circumferential road in Barangay Fatima, General Santos City.

Police identified the victims as Kristel Mae Hecto, 24, a recent accounting graduate from Mindanao State University, and Christian Dave Bonayos, 27, of Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat.

Hecto, on her way to pick up a cousin from school, was hit by Bonayos, who was reportedly participating in an illegal drag race when the accident occurred.

In a statement, the Hecto family expressed profound grief over Kristel Mae’s death, describing her as a young woman with dreams that would now remain unfulfilled.

In a remarkable gesture, however, the Hecto family announced they would not pursue legal action against Bonayos’s family. Having learned that Bonayos, who recently lost his own mother, left behind two young children, they instead called for understanding, emphasizing that no amount of compensation could replace their daughter’s life.
