Twelve youths were hospitalized Monday night after reportedly eating suspected poisonous tuba-tuba fruit, locally known as “kasla,” in Sitio Kolondafok, Barangay Topland, Koronadal City.
The incident occurred on Oct. 26, 2026, after the youths became curious about the fruit they had seen on a video-sharing platform, Barangay Topland Chairman Terrence Jay Ehimplar said.
Ehimplar said the group ate the fruit Monday afternoon. Several hours later, the youths began experiencing dizziness, vomiting and abdominal pain.
The victims were immediately brought to a hospital for treatment and remained under medical observation, according to the barangay official.
Ehimplar urged parents to closely monitor their children’s activities and be aware of what they consume.
He also warned the public against eating tuba-tuba fruit because it may contain toxic substances that can harm the body.
The incident serves as a reminder to exercise caution when encountering unfamiliar fruits and plants, particularly those featured in online videos.
Authorities have not provided further details about the condition of the 12 youths or when they may be discharged from the hospital.
The barangay chairman urged parents to guide their children and discourage them from eating unidentified fruits without knowing whether they are safe for consumption. VIA 95.7 Brigada News FM Koronadal
