Asian Games pole vault champion EJ Obiena is calling for stronger grassroots sports programs and better training facilities to help develop the next generation of Filipino athletes.
Obiena said his record-breaking 5.91-meter performance at the Asian Games, along with the achievements of fellow Filipino sports stars Carlos Yulo and Alex Eala, proves that the country has no shortage of talent.
However, he stressed that young athletes need access to quality coaching, proper equipment, and adequate facilities to reach their full potential.
The Filipino pole vaulter also highlighted sports as a powerful force for national unity, expressing hope that the success of current athletes will inspire more young Filipinos to pursue sports and bring pride and honor to the country.
