More than 1,500 residents remain in evacuation centers in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, two months after a powerful earthquake killed 38 people.
According to the prefectural government, 1,514 people were still staying in 32 evacuation centers as of Friday.
The earthquake caused damage to more than 71,000 residential buildings, including 9,540 that were completely or partially destroyed.
Meanwhile, some evacuees have started moving into temporary housing as reconstruction efforts continue.
A total of 182 emergency temporary housing units have been built across 10 complexes, while another 700 units are scheduled to be constructed in 25 complexes to accommodate evacuees by the end of the year.
Restoration work is also ongoing on facilities affected by the earthquake, including water services and railway lines in the area.
