At least 10 people were killed while 62 others were injured following a powerful explosion at a military barracks in the municipality of Viacha, Bolivia, on Friday.
Local authorities said the explosion occurred at around 2:30 p.m. at an area used to store pyrotechnic materials belonging to the Defense Ministry.
Authorities said the death toll could rise to between 10 and 15, while one of the injured was a young girl who suffered third-degree burns.
The blast also damaged several homes in the area, with windows reportedly shattered by the force of the explosion.
Ambulances, medical teams, and police officers were immediately deployed to the military complex to assess the damage and evacuate the injured to nearby health facilities.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
Meanwhile, firefighters warned that a heat source remained at the site, raising concerns over a possible second explosion. Residents were urged to stay at least 150 meters away from the military complex.
