Padilla calls for social media ban on youth amid rising school violence

Sen. Robin Padilla said a ban on social media use among young people should now be pursued, citing a series of violent incidents in schools in the Philippines.

Padilla said the situation in the country, particularly the successive incidents of violence in schools, is concerning.

The senator said he had seen similar heinous crimes before during his time at Bilibid.

In connection with the issue, Padilla asked the public to understand his proposal for legislation similar to measures being pursued in what he described as progressive countries, including restrictions on young people using social media.

Padilla said a social media ban for young people should be considered because social media does not provide proper thinking and examples, according to his explanation.

He also said social media is being used by some individuals to carry out violent ideas.

Padilla’s remarks come as concerns over violence in schools continue to draw attention.

The senator’s proposal centers on restricting social media access among young people as a response to concerns about the influence and use of online platforms.

The senator did not provide further details in the statement on how such a proposed social media ban would be implemented or what specific age group would be covered.

His call focuses on pursuing legislation that would restrict social media use among young people amid continuing concerns over violence in schools.
