Gilas Pilipinas Women, to compete in FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament

GILAS WOMEN ARE READY TO TIP OFF!

The Gilas Pilipinas Women will begin their campaign today in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico, as they take their first step toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The game is set for 10:30 a.m. Manila time, marking the team’s first major competition under new head coach BT Toews.

The Philippines is grouped with world No. 7 Canada, No. 22 Senegal, and No. 31 Mexico, with Gilas currently ranked 30th in the world.

After Mexico, Gilas Women will take on Canada on August 20, followed by Senegal on August 21.

Leading the Philippine squad are Kacey Dela Rosa, Jack Animam, and Vanessa de Jesus, alongside veterans Afril Bernardino and Janine Pontejos.

Only the top two teams from Group B will advance to the knockout stage, while the tournament champion will secure a spot in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2028.

With a new coach, a young and promising core, and an Olympic dream on the line, Gilas Women are ready to make their mark on the international stage.
