Madrasa teacher killed in shooting at Muslim Village in Davao City

A 58-year-old Madrasa teacher was shot dead by an unidentified suspect in Muslim Village, Bangkal, Barangay Talomo, Davao City, on Sunday night, Aug. 16.

Police identified the victim as Earl Abdul Raham Luardo Espina, a resident of the area.

The shooting happened past 7 p.m., according to police.

A witness, who was a 911 emergency medical responder, said he heard several consecutive gunshots at about 7:30 p.m.

After hearing the shots, the witness checked where they came from and found Espina lying on the ground.

The witness then contacted Central 911 to request assistance.

An ambulance later arrived at the scene. Responders found that Espina was already showing no signs of life.

The Scene of the Crime Operations team recovered five .45-caliber shell casings from the crime scene.

The recovered evidence was turned over to Davao City Forensic Unit 11 for proper examination.

Police have not identified the suspect in the shooting based on the information provided.

The incident occurred in Purok 60, Muslim Village, Bangkal, Barangay Talomo, where Espina was also identified as a resident.

Authorities are continuing to process the evidence recovered at the scene as part of the investigation into the shooting.

The recovered shell casings were submitted to the forensic unit for examination.
