Two 11-year-old boys died after an improvised fruit-picking pole touched an energized power line while they gathered santol fruits nearby.
The victims, identified as Alex Palmes and Clyde Glenn Tercio, lived in Barangay Luma, Kiamba, and attended the same school.
According to Mayor James Basquinez Reganit, their families said the boys would gather santol for their school’s Nutrition Month celebration.
Initial reports said Alex suffered electrocution when the improvised fruit picker accidentally contacted an energized overhead power line above him.
Clyde reportedly rushed toward Alex to help his best friend but also suffered electrocution after coming into contact with it.
Responders immediately brought both boys to a nearby hospital, where attending physicians declared them dead upon arrival despite emergency efforts.
The incident left their families, classmates, teachers, and neighbors mourning the sudden deaths of the two young boys in Kiamba.
Their remains were brought to their respective family homes, where relatives and friends gathered to offer prayers and final respects.
Mayor Reganit also visited the bereaved families, expressed condolences, and extended assistance following the tragic deaths of the two boys.
The incident highlights the dangers of using long conductive tools near overhead electrical lines, particularly while harvesting fruits from trees.
