Former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV has rejected Vice President Sara Duterte’s claim that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is allegedly under his influence and that of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
In a social media post, Trillanes responded to Duterte’s statement by saying the vice president appeared to be “delusional” and insisted that the ICC is not controlled by anyone.
“The ICC is nobody’s puppet. Former President Rodrigo Duterte’s case before the ICC is the result of a thorough investigation that took several years,” Trillanes said.
He maintained that the case involving the former president stemmed from the ICC’s investigation into the anti-illegal drug campaign carried out during Duterte’s administration.
Trillanes also said Filipinos already know what he described as the truth behind the thousands of deaths linked to the government’s war on drugs.
His remarks came in response to Vice President Duterte’s earlier statement alleging that the ICC was acting as a “puppet” of both Trillanes and President Marcos.
Before Trillanes’ statement, Malacañang had also rejected the vice president’s allegation regarding the international tribunal.
The exchange marks the latest public disagreement between Duterte and critics over the ICC’s investigation into the anti-drug campaign conducted during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The ICC investigation has remained a subject of political debate in the Philippines, with supporters and critics of the former president continuing to dispute the tribunal’s role and the circumstances surrounding its probe.
