An 11-year-old Grade 6 pupil was found carrying an unloaded .38-caliber revolver at Pulang Bato Elementary School in Almeria, Biliran, on July 29, authorities said.
According to the Biliran Police Provincial Office, police officers were conducting a school visitation when the school principal informed them that a student was allegedly carrying a firearm.
Authorities immediately recovered the .38-caliber revolver from the pupil. Police said the firearm had no ammunition.
The confiscated revolver was voluntarily turned over to the responding police officers.
Following the incident, police coordinated with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, barangay officials, and the child’s parents to address the situation.
After an assessment and counseling, the 11-year-old was released into the custody of the child’s parents for diversion proceedings in accordance with the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.
Police did not disclose how the pupil obtained the firearm or whether it was legally owned by a family member.
The revolver was brought to the police station for proper documentation and processing.
Authorities have not announced whether additional charges or investigations will be pursued in connection with the firearm.
The Biliran Police Provincial Office said it continues to coordinate with the concerned agencies following the incident involving the elementary school pupil.
The recovery of the firearm occurred during a routine school visitation aimed at maintaining campus safety and strengthening coordination between schools and law enforcement authorities.
Police have yet to release further information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
