A barangay councilor identified by police as a high-value individual (HVI) was arrested after authorities seized an estimated 330 grams of suspected shabu during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Ortiz, Iloilo City, on July 21.
Police identified the suspect only by the alias “Buldog.”
According to investigators, the suspect had been placed under surveillance for more than three weeks because of his alleged involvement in illegal drug activities before the buy-bust operation was conducted.
Authorities said they confiscated several packages containing suspected shabu with an estimated street value of ₱2.24 million.
The operation resulted in the arrest of the barangay councilor, who is now under police custody.
The suspect is facing charges for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Police did not immediately release additional information regarding the operation or identify other individuals who may have been involved.
Authorities have yet to disclose whether additional operations are being planned in connection with the case.
The confiscated substances will undergo the required procedures as part of the investigation and court proceedings.
Police continue to conduct anti-illegal drug operations targeting individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal drug trade.
The investigation remains ongoing.
