VP Sara Duterte says impeachment complaint lacks evidence

Vice President Sara Duterte maintained that the impeachment complaint against her is not supported by sufficient evidence following the fourth day of her impeachment trial.

In a statement released Tuesday, Duterte said the proceedings had shown that the allegations against her lacked factual basis.

She denied accusations that she made threats or hired an assassin, saying no evidence had been presented to support those claims.

“Repeatedly claiming that there were threats when none existed, inventing an assassin where there was none, and fabricating evidence to support those claims does not transform fiction into fact,” Duterte said.

According to the vice president, allegations do not become true simply because they are repeatedly asserted without supporting evidence.

She said the impeachment proceedings should be based on credible evidence rather than speculation, manufactured narratives or unsupported allegations.

Duterte also argued that relying on unproven claims undermines public institutions, erodes public trust, wastes public resources and weakens the search for truth.

“The rule of law depends on facts, not fiction,” she said.

The vice president reiterated that impeachment proceedings should be grounded in evidence and factual findings instead of conjecture.

Her statement came after the fourth day of the impeachment trial, during which issues related to the evidence presented in the complaint continued to be discussed.

Duterte maintained that the complaint filed against her failed to establish proof supporting the accusations.

She also emphasized that legal proceedings must adhere to the rule of law, which she said depends on verified facts rather than fabricated accounts.

The vice president concluded her statement by thanking the public.

The impeachment trial continues as the impeachment court hears the case and evaluates the evidence presented by both the prosecution and the defense.
