Authorities have secured seven vintage bombs believed to have been used during World War II after they were discovered at a junk shop in Barangay Bagumbuhay, Project 4, Quezon City over the weekend.
According to reports, the junk shop owner found the suspected military ordnance while unloading scrap materials transported from the establishment’s branch in Sitio Cabading, Barangay Inarawan, Antipolo City.
Initial investigation showed that the items were accidentally included in the truck’s cargo after one of the workers mistook them for ordinary scrap metal.
The junk shop owner immediately reported the incident to Project 4 Police Station 8.
Police officers responded promptly, secured the area, and coordinated with the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) bomb squad for assessment.
The District Explosives and Canine Unit (DECU) conducted a thorough threat assessment and carried out a Render Safe Procedure (RSP).
The seven recovered items were later identified as 60 mm High Explosive (HE) M49A2 mortar rounds.
QCPD chief PBGEN Glenn Silvio emphasized that the incident highlights the importance of public vigilance and the immediate reporting of suspicious objects.
He added that the swift response of the police ensured the safe recovery of the military ordnance and the protection of the surrounding community.
