Heavy equipment has reopened one lane along Barangay Kapatan Road in Glan, Sarangani Province after continuous clearing operations following two landslides triggered by persistent heavy rains.
The landslides struck Sitio Lawis and Sitio Cabug in Barangay Kapatan on the night of July 9, blocking the main road and stranding motorists traveling to and from General Santos City. The road initially became impassable to all types of vehicles, while only motorcycles could cross with assistance in some sections.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Soccsksargen and the Sarangani District Engineering Office, road clearing operations immediately deployed heavy equipment to remove fallen soil, rocks, and trees that covered the highway. Clearing crews first focused on Sitio Lawis to allow equipment to reach the affected area in Tourtown Glan at Sitio Cabug.
As of 11:30 a.m. on July 10, authorities confirmed that one lane had reopened to traffic, allowing vehicles to pass under controlled conditions. However, officials warned that several portions of the road remain hazardous because of unstable slopes and continuing rainfall, which could trigger additional landslides.
The DPWH and the Sarangani Provincial Information Office advised motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, follow traffic personnel stationed in the area, and exercise extreme caution while passing through Barangay Kapatan as monitoring and clearing operations continue.
