The Department of Education (DepEd) will launch active shooter drills in schools as part of its strengthened campus security measures.
The initiative comes in response to recent incidents of school violence involving students.
During the kickoff of the School-Based Feeding Program in Pulilan, Bulacan, Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the department has already begun enhancing its safety protocols.
According to Angara, the active shooter drills are intended to guide schools on how to respond to armed attacks.
The drills will demonstrate the appropriate actions to take and familiarize schools with the emergency protocols that will be automatically implemented during such incidents.
The program is scheduled to be launched on Friday, July 10.
Angara also said that DepEd is coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to address the increasing number of bomb threats targeting schools.
