Former President and Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has clarified that she would not support any impeachment complaint that may be filed against Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla.
In a Facebook post, Arroyo addressed speculation linking her to an alleged plan to impeach Remulla.
She recalled that Remulla served as a Career Executive Service Officer (CESO) Assistant Secretary under the Office of former President Joseph Estrada during the EDSA Dos period.
According to Arroyo, instead of keeping his Civil Service post, Remulla vacated the position to help her administration in Malacañang.
She also noted that Remulla later became one of her allies in Congress and helped pass several significant laws during her presidency.
““Ombudsman Remulla was a CESO Assistant Secretary in President Estrada’s office when EDSA Dos happened. Rather than cling to his Civil Service security of tenure, he graciously vacated his post to give me a free hand in organizing Malacañang,” she said.
Because of this, Arroyo said that if an impeachment resolution against Remulla is filed, she would vote against it.
She added that impeachment is “fundamentally political,” and her vote would be in support of Ombudsman Remulla.
