Palace fires back at Cayetano, denies focusing only on VP Sara Duterte’s impeachment

Malacañang has rejected Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano’s claim that the administration is focused on the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte while neglecting investigations into other issues, including the alleged flood control scam.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the allegation has no basis and denied that Malacañang wants public attention centered solely on the impeachment proceedings.

Castro said government agencies continue their respective investigations into the alleged flood control scam and efforts to hold those responsible accountable.

She identified the National Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Justice and the Office of the Ombudsman as among the agencies continuing to work on the case.

Castro also said the impeachment trial is not discussed during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s meetings with Cabinet members.

According to the Palace official, Cabinet meetings remain focused on governance and the administration’s ongoing responsibilities.

Castro challenged Cayetano to explain the basis of his statements, questioning where he was getting his information.

Cayetano earlier claimed that the administration’s attention was directed toward the impeachment trial of Duterte while other issues were allegedly being overlooked.

The Palace maintained that there has been no slowdown in the government’s investigations into the alleged flood control scam despite the ongoing impeachment proceedings involving the vice president.

No additional details were provided regarding the status of the investigations or any response from Cayetano following Castro’s remarks.

The exchange comes as public attention remains divided between the impeachment proceedings against the vice president and ongoing government investigations into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
