₱3.1 million in unregistered cooking oil seized in Davao

Authorities seized more than ₱3.1 million worth of alleged unregistered palm and coconut cooking oil during an operation in Davao City, according to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

The operation was conducted on June 11 at a facility located along Monteverde corner Bangoy Street in coordination with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Sta. Ana Police Station.

During the operation, authorities arrested a 23-year-old man who was allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of cooking oil products that were not registered with the FDA.

Investigators also found that the facility allegedly lacked a License to Operate (LTO), a possible violation of Republic Act No. 9711, or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009.

Among the items seized were four storage tanks containing palm and coconut oil with an estimated combined volume of 9.5 metric tons. Authorities also confiscated five containers holding approximately 5,000 liters of coconut oil, weighing scales and other equipment used in the operation of the facility.

The total value of the seized items was estimated at ₱3,148,200.

According to the CIDG, the sale and distribution of food products without FDA registration may pose risks to public health because such products have not undergone the agency’s required evaluation process for quality and safety.

Authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to enforce food safety regulations and ensure that products sold to consumers comply with government standards.

The seized products and equipment are now under government custody as authorities continue their investigation into the alleged violations.

Officials have yet to release additional details regarding possible charges that may be filed in connection with the case.
