The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has confirmed that the Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has launched a thorough investigation into the tragedy in Dipaculao, Aurora, which claimed the lives of two Ateneo athletes.
In connection with the investigation, the PNP-CIDG has issued subpoenas to coaches and players who participated in the team-building activity where the two student-athletes died.
According to the DILG, authorities are hopeful that all individuals connected to the incident will fully cooperate with the investigation.
The agency also assured the public that due process will be observed and that accountability will be determined based on the facts established during the investigation.
The DILG urged the public to refrain from speculation and to allow the proper authorities to conduct an impartial investigation out of respect for the grieving families.
