Sen. Erwin Tulfo has filed a libel case before the Regional Trial Court in Pasay City against some members of the group composed of 18 former soldiers after his name was linked to the ongoing flood control controversy.
The legal action followed statements made during a flood control hearing conducted by the Cayetano bloc.
During the hearing, Bernard Gumban, one of the members of the group, alleged that he had delivered suitcases to Tulfo on two separate occasions.
Gumban claimed that the first delivery involved two suitcases, while the second delivery involved six suitcases.
Following the allegations, Tulfo initiated legal proceedings by filing a libel complaint against certain members of the group.
Meanwhile, the camp of Atty. Levi Baligod withdrew allegations previously made against Sen. Loren Legarda.
During a press conference, Baligod said a review conducted by their camp in March found insufficient evidence to support claims that Legarda had received suitcases.
According to Baligod, the review did not establish enough proof to substantiate the allegation against the senator.
He added that Legarda may also file a case against the individual who implicated her should she decide to pursue legal action.
The developments represent the latest legal actions arising from allegations connected to the flood control controversy. Tulfo’s libel complaint and the withdrawal of allegations against Legarda come as issues raised during the hearings continue to draw public attention.
The case is now before the court, while questions surrounding the allegations raised during the flood control proceedings remain under public scrutiny.
