4Ps beneficiaries defend program amid online criticism over reported benefits

Social media users continue to debate the benefits received by members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), including reports of zero billing in electricity, which sparked criticism from some middle-class sectors.

Amid the controversy, several beneficiaries clarified that they do not solely depend on government assistance for their daily needs and livelihood.

Miriam Caponpon, a 4Ps beneficiary, urged the public to stop blaming program members for misconceptions surrounding their benefits.

She stressed that many beneficiaries continue to work despite receiving assistance from the government.

Caponpon also clarified that the assistance they receive does not automatically cover all household needs, especially since support arrives only every two months.

Beneficiaries explained that the cash grant serves only as supplemental support and does not function as their main source of income.

They added that the amount they receive varies depending on the number of school-aged children in their households who remain enrolled in school.

Another beneficiary, Josephine, who has participated in the program for five years, said her family receives a modest amount based on her two children currently studying.

She emphasized that critics should not blame 4Ps members, as they only receive assistance provided under program guidelines.

Program supporters stated that the 4Ps helps reduce the financial burden of low-income families but does not replace employment or livelihood.

They also rejected claims that beneficiaries become dependent or lazy, stressing that most continue to work and contribute to their communities.

Advocates added that understanding and support remain important, noting that helping one family rise contributes to broader community development.
