DENR studying legal options vs Navotas landfill operator

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is now reviewing possible legal remedies against the operator of the Navotas Sanitary Landfill.

Following a joint inspection, DENR Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna said the agency is coordinating with the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) to determine the next steps regarding the landfill’s operations.

Documents related to the facility have already been submitted for further evaluation.

Earlier, the DENR directed sanitary landfill operators nationwide to submit contingency plans for possible disasters.

The agency also urged the public to report and immediately halt operations of open and controlled dumpsites to help protect nearby communities.

Meanwhile, poor air quality was again recorded across parts of Metro Manila due to the Navotas landfill fire.
