Police major allegedly linked to illegal online cockfighting relieved from post

A police major accused of acting as a protector of illegal online cockfighting operations and other illicit activities on Negros Island has been relieved from his post and placed under restrictive custody.

In a statement, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said the move is part of its expanding investigation into the alleged gambling network. The identity of the police officer has not been disclosed.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. described the officer as a “termite” within the organization—a threat that could undermine the integrity of the force.

Nartatez stressed that the PNP will not tolerate such behavior and is determined to identify and hold accountable those involved.

He also reminded police commanders to ensure strict monitoring of their personnel.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), in coordination with the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG), has been directed to intensify information-gathering and surveillance operations against rogue police officers.
