A fruit vendor was arrested past 1 a.m. Dec. 24 after authorities caught him allegedly selling illegal drugs during a buy-bust operation in Barangay 9-A, Davao City.
Police identified the suspect as Louigi Dejacto, a resident of Catalunan Grande. He was arrested in an operation conducted by the Special Operations Units-11 in coordination with the San Pedro Police Station.
Authorities said Dejacto, who earns a living as a fruit vendor, was also involved in the sale of suspected shabu. During the operation, police recovered a large quantity of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P544,000. Also seized were several drug paraphernalia and personal items allegedly connected to the illegal activity.
Following his arrest, Dejacto was taken into police custody and charged with violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Police said he will spend Christmas in jail while facing the charges filed against him.
Law enforcement officials classified Dejacto as a high-value individual due to the volume of suspected illegal drugs recovered during the operation.
Police did not disclose further details regarding the source of the suspected shabu or whether other individuals were involved. Authorities said additional investigation is ongoing.
The arrest was part of continuing anti-illegal drug operations in Davao City, particularly ahead of the Christmas season.
Dejacto remains under detention as the case progresses, while police reiterated their commitment to enforcing the country’s anti-drug laws and curbing the illegal drug trade in the city.
