A police officer in Ormoc City is recovering in the hospital after being attacked by a drunk man wielding a machete during a response call on September 26.
Authorities identified the officer as Patrolman Jan Learre Adora, assigned to Ormoc City Police Station 2. Adora was responding to a disturbance in Barangay Juaton when he attempted to stop a 69-year-old intoxicated man carrying a long machete.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly struck Adora in the face. The officer fell to the ground but managed to draw his service firearm and shot the attacker, who was declared dead at the scene.
Police said Adora sustained facial injuries and is now undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Police Regional Office-8 Director Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy personally visited Adora to check his condition. He awarded the officer with the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting and extended financial assistance for his medical expenses.
Capoy praised Adora’s bravery and commitment to maintaining peace and order in the community despite the violent encounter.
