8 killed, 1 critical in Isabela highway crash involving truck and two vans

Eight people were killed while one remains in critical condition after a six-wheeler truck collided with two vans early Saturday morning, July 19  in Barangay San Pedro–San Pablo, Aurora, Isabela.

According to local police, the truck (plate number CBA‑4017), driven by October De Leon of Echague, Isabela, reportedly crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into the van carrying Ron Ron Onalan and 16 passengers.

The second van, driven by Oseas Calderon, also collided with the first van due to the initial impact.

Among those killed was Calderon, along with four passengers from Barangay Turod Bulog, Tabuk City, Kalinga, identified only as “Niches,” “Claribel,” “Jing,” and four other still-unidentified individuals.

Police said the truck’s unexpected lane crossover is under investigation. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the maneuver.

The crash has raised safety concerns about nighttime highway driving conditions and truck operations in the region.
