Two Teenagers drown in Bohol river while swimming after school activity

Two teenage boys drowned while swimming in a river in Barangay Kaluwasan, Dagohoy, Bohol, on the afternoon of June 12, 2025.

The victims, identified only by their aliases Leon and Gelo, both 14 years old and residents of Barangay San Miguel, reportedly went swimming with two classmates after attending Brigada Eskwela.

Initial investigation by the Dagohoy Municipal Police Station revealed that the two boys did not know how to swim. Their companions tried to rescue them but failed, prompting them to call for help.

Responders from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Dagohoy immediately arrived at the scene. Authorities later recovered the lifeless bodies of the victims underwater, at an estimated depth of three fathoms.

Police continue to remind the public, especially minors, to exercise caution when swimming in rivers or deep waters.
