Hoda Kotb may have bid an emotional farewell to NBC’s Today show earlier this year, but according to insiders, she isn’t quite ready to let go.
Multiple sources claim the beloved 60-year-old TV host has been making unexpected appearances, calling and texting colleagues frequently, and causing growing concern that she may want to reclaim her former position.
Surprise visits leave Today staff rattled
Just weeks after stepping away to focus on raising her two daughters, Haley and Hope, Kotb appeared backstage at Todayon March 11. She was caught on video hugging Jenna Bush Hager and praising her former cohost for doing a great job.
She told Jenna that she had to stop by and that she was crushing it on air.
While the visit seemed friendly, some inside NBC see it differently. A source close to the production said her presence made a few people nervous.
“She keeps showing up, saying how much she misses everyone and acting like she has all the time in the world,” the insider revealed. “At the same time, she keeps talking about her great new life outside of TV — but it’s clear she still wants to be part of the action.”
Craig and Jenna adjust to new roles
Since Kotb’s exit, Craig Melvin, 45, has joined Savannah Guthrie during the show’s main hours, while Jenna Bush Hager, 43, continues to cohost the lighter fourth hour with rotating guest stars.
Guest hosts like Scarlett Johansson and Justin Sylvester have added fresh energy to the show. However, Hoda’s continued presence behind the scenes has made both Craig and Jenna feel unsettled.
“Craig’s doing a phenomenal job, but there’s definitely tension,” a tipster shared. “Hoda made a decision to leave, and now it seems like she’s backpedaling. It’s confusing for everyone.”
The situation with Jenna is no different. Though Hoda’s praise came across as heartfelt, some believe the sweet words masked a deeper motive.
“No one wants to say it out loud, but people are worried Hoda wants her seat back,” the source added. “They love her, but her hovering is making it hard to move on.”
NBC has not issued an official statement about Kotb’s status with the show. For now, fans continue to speculate whether her heartfelt goodbye was just a pause — or if she’s quietly planning her return to morning TV.
Until then, Today continues with its current team, all while navigating the lingering shadow of one of its most iconic cohosts.
