A former police officer was ambushed and shot dead by at least five unidentified assailants in Purok Michelle, Barangay Dulao, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on the morning of February 27.
The victim, identified as Renaldo Bernel, a resident of Barangay Pacol, was gunned down while riding his motorcycle home after dropping off his child at school, according to Police Captain Emman Anacleto, deputy chief of Bago PNP.
Authorities recovered a total of 25 pieces of ammunition from the crime scene, including 16 fired cartridges from a caliber 5.56mm firearm, nine fired cartridges from a 9mm gun, a live round of 9mm ammunition, and a fired bullet from a 9mm gun.
Bernel was reportedly dismissed from the police force and was managing a poultry farm in his area at the time of the attack.
The police are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and identify the suspects.
