NPA rebel killed in clash with military in Capiz

A suspected member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) was killed in an armed encounter with government forces in Barangay Minan, Tapaz, Capiz, on Wednesday, February 26.

According to the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division of the Philippine Army, the clash erupted at around 3 p.m. when troops launched a combat operation following reports from residents about the presence of suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in the area.

The armed group, believed to be remnants of the dismantled Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay (KR-P) Central Front and Regional Sentro De Grabidad, allegedly consisted of seven individuals.

The encounter lasted for about five minutes, resulting in the death of one male NPA rebel. His identity has yet to be confirmed.

During the clearing operation, authorities recovered four firearms and various war materials from the scene.

The military vowed to continue its operations to dismantle remaining insurgent groups in the region.
