Two high-ranking leaders of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) were killed in a military operation in the hinterlands of Agusan del Sur on February 12, 2025, the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) confirmed.
The 3rd Special Forces Battalion (3SFBn), operating under the 401st Infantry Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division, responded to a tip from concerned residents about armed rebels conducting illegal activities in the area. Upon arrival, troops engaged the group in a firefight, resulting in the deaths of two key CTG figures.
The slain rebels were identified as Larry Garcia, alias Joven, the Commanding Officer of the Regional Sentro De Grabidad (RSDG) of the Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC), and his Vice Commanding Officer, alias Gaga/Garing.
Following the encounter, troops recovered two backpacks, a Baofeng commercial radio, medical supplies, and subversive documents.
EastMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Luis Rex D. Bergante praised the troops for their dedication, stating that their efforts have weakened CTG’s influence and paved the way for peace and development in the region. He also urged remaining CTG members to surrender, assuring government support for those willing to reintegrate into society.
