The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has clarified that no sensitive information has been compromised in connection with the alleged Chinese hacker attacks on the computer system of the Office of the President.
Some of the stolen data were military information related to the territorial dispute between China and the Philippines over the West Philippine Sea in 2018 and is being released today to look like new.
According to DICT Secretary Ivan Uy, the hacking attempts were detected by the agency immediately and prevented the loss of important data.
In the end, Uy also said that the attempt to steal government data continues but the hackers had not yet obtained any important information.
A Bloomerg news report cited that Chinese state sponsored hackers were behind the infiltration of the computer systems on the executive branch of the Philippine government.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry through its spokesperson however denied hand in the hacking incident saying China “consistently oppose all forms of hacking and cyberattacks”.
