A supposed joyful wedding preparation turned into a nightmare for Evelyn Ruelan after she uncovered a shocking truth: she has been married for a year to a man she has never met.
Evelyn, a resident of Bacolod City, recently applied for a Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR) in preparation for her upcoming wedding. To her shock, what she received instead was a Certificate of Marriage, indicating she had already tied the knot with an Indian national in Valenzuela City a year ago.
“Ngayon ang unang anibersaryo ng kasal na hindi ko alam na nangyari. Kung hindi ko nakuha ang mga dokumento, wala talaga akong kaalaman na kasal na pala ako,” Evelyn shared in disbelief.
What made the revelation even more baffling is the accuracy of the details on the certificate, including her full name and even her parents’ names. However, Evelyn asserts that the signature on the document was not hers, fueling her suspicion that her identity was fraudulently used.
Adding to the confusion, Evelyn revealed she has never set foot in Valenzuela City, where the marriage allegedly took place. She questioned how local civil registry officials could allow such an event to transpire without verifying the authenticity of the documents.
Evelyn is now calling for a thorough investigation into the matter, determined to clear her name. The incident has not only derailed her wedding plans with her fiancé but also raised serious concerns about identity theft and procedural lapses.
“This isn’t just about me. How could something this serious happen so easily?” Evelyn lamented.
Local authorities and concerned agencies have yet to respond to Evelyn’s appeal for an investigation.
