A 9-year-old girl was killed while her two siblings remain in critical condition after they were allegedly struck with a stone inside their home in Hacienda Badiang, Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental authorities said.
Police identified the victims as three siblings who were left alone in their house at the time of the incident. The fatality was a 9-year-old girl, while her 14-year-old sister and 4-year-old brother were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Police Lt. Col. Edison Garcia, chief of the Silay Component City Police Station, said initial investigation showed the children’s mother works as an overseas Filipino worker in Saudi Arabia, while their father works in Bacolod City.
Authorities said the father was unable to return home Friday night due to heavy rain. On the morning of Feb. 7, he went to the house to bring rice to the children and found the three bloodied inside. One of the children was already dead.
Investigators recovered a stone inside the room believed to have been used in the attack.
Police said a person of interest has been identified and is being monitored as part of the ongoing investigation.
The children’s mother arrived from Saudi Arabia on Sunday night after learning of the incident.
Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego said he would provide ₱25,000, while 3rd District Rep. Javi Benitez offered ₱50,000 for information that could help identify and arrest the suspect.
