A 7-year-old boy died after accidentally falling into a septic tank under construction in Barangay Ibao, Lezo, Aklan on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
In an interview with Brigada News FM Kalibo, the child’s mother, identified as alias Isay, said she was busy caring for her youngest child and doing household chores at the time of the incident.
She said she later called for the boy but received no response, prompting her to search for him.
Her concern grew when she found the child’s slippers near the septic tank, which was filled with water. She immediately sought help from others in the area.
The boy was taken to a hospital but later died.
Authorities and residents responded to the incident as the community mourned the child’s death.
A meeting between the owner of the septic tank and the family of the deceased child is scheduled at the barangay.
The incident raised concerns among residents about safety around construction areas, particularly those with open or unfinished structures that may pose risks to children.
The circumstances surrounding the boy’s fall were described as accidental.
Residents said the tragedy highlights the need for caution and safety measures in areas where construction is ongoing.
Local officials are expected to facilitate discussions between the involved parties following the incident.
