7 police officers returning from wake crash in Sarangani; 1 dead

A vehicle carrying seven police officers crashed into a center island early Thursday in Alabel, Sarangani Province, killing one officer and injuring six others.

Police Executive Master Sergeant (PEMS) Welfrido Ollosa Jr. from Tacurong City died in the accident. He was seated behind the driver, identified as PEMS Michael Sutelo from Koronadal City.

The officers were assigned to the Regional Holding Support Unit (RHSU) of Regional Office XII in Tambler, General Santos City.

Based on the initial investigation, the group had just attended the wake of a colleague’s mother in Barangay Pag-asa, Alabel, Sarangani Province. The crash happened while they were heading back to their headquarters in Tambler.

The accident occurred at about 2:10 a.m. on June 19, 2025. Their vehicle hit the center island along Maharlika Bridge, severely damaging the left side of the vehicle where Ollosa was seated.

Responders from the Alabel Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) immediately brought the victims to the nearest hospital. Ollosa was declared dead on arrival.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
